Manchester United vs. Liverpool: When it kicks off

In the Premier League, when Sunday afternoon kicks off, there is always one game in particular that sticks in the mind.

It’s always exciting, the reigning champions have an inferiority complex about being a distant second, and the pub-goers — aka the ‘Santiago Sanchez Fan Club’ — get up bright and early to watch the rest of the league unfold.

It’s got so popular that the FA Cup round of 16 was recently called the “Santiago Sanchez Cup.”

As Manchester United look to defend the trophy they won back in 2013, they’ll need a lead-up to the game against Liverpool in no small measure thanks to a lengthy injury list.

At the weekend, United lost 3-1 to Tottenham to close the gap on the league leaders to eight points with the Red Devils now in sixth place, four points off a Champions League place.

Last season, the teams in the second and third places — who now share the same midweek match-up — both fell victim to injuries to star players, which saw them drop out of the league run-in.

One difference between this year and last is that, at least on paper, Liverpool are considerably healthier. This time around, Reds’ talisman Mohamed Salah is fit and firing, while United are still without midfielders Paul Pogba and Juan Mata.

The decisive match will kick off at 12:30 p.m. UK time (7:30 a.m. ET) and be aired live on several UK and international broadcasters. CNN Worldwide will air the broadcast, but will not be streaming or offering commentary through the live stream.
